ST NICHOLAS BELL TOWER
Ankaran, Slovenia
built 2026
New bell tower for the (post)modernist church in Ankaran, Slovenia, that was originally designed without one. The bell tower is carefully placed in relationship to the church, to the town and to the landscape. The bells are placed under the high open baldachin, raised on a solid tower above the height of the church. The design is reminiscent of the traditional Catholic Venetian style bell tower that is typical for this Mediterranean world, although a modern interpretation, a negative of the traditional silhouette to fit to the modern church.
