Work has started on an outdoor public place in Orehovlje, Slovenia.
Local community expressed their wish for a green park in the centre of the village. The idea was transformed and upgraded in Mediterranean tradition into multi-purpose public space, that becomes outdoor village gathering place for all generations. Location next to the church, graveyard, memorial and restaurant allows interference of different uses and creates opportunity for communication. The new area will be also able to hold local community gatherings and festivals.
The design creates multi-purpose flat area next to the church with the help of retaining walls made by hand from stone from local Karst quarry. Generous staircase allows comfortable communication and hang-out areas. There is existing walnut tree line on one side and new Mediterranean cypress tree line planned on the other side, that connects the church with the graveyard.
The construction is planned in two phases, with the first one to finish in 2018. More about the project here.
