The north bank reflective space was opened before the fifth anniversary of the 22nd February 2011 earthquake, with a private planting carried out by the bereaved families on the 21st February 2016.
The north bank provides a space to privately reflect and view the Canterbury Earthquake National Memorial on the other side of the river, which will be complete for the 2017 anniversary. More about north bank of the Memorial can be found here.
